About the
Faribault County Humane Society

By law, animals must be held for five business days, and if they are not claimed, the animals may be euthanized. FCHS started saving the animals. They have found homes for over 100 animals each year.
Eventually, FCHS began taking care of the local dog pound. The pound was a small metal building with limited creature comforts. The humane society made and paid for many improvements (air conditioning, windows, a second door, bedding, dog cots, and cat towers.)
FCHS volunteers go to the pound morning, noon, and night every day of the year to care for the animals. They provide fresh food and water, empty litter boxes, and exercise the dogs. The collected fees are reinvested in the care of the animals.
Could you help us at the pound? It just takes a few minutes!
Our History
The Faribault County Humane Society was originally established in 1985, but was unfortunately disbanded after a few years. In 2008, members of the community saw a need for humane care of homeless and abandoned animals so they joined forces to reestablish the Faribault County Humane Society.
Eventually FCHS also began taking care of the local animal impound. Prior to this, many of the animals would be euthanized had they not been claimed after 5 business days. FCHS reestablished the no-kill status, and now the animals receive veterinary care and become eligible for adoption after 5 business days! FCHS has found homes for over 100 animals each year!
Consider Fostering a Furry Friend!
Want to make a difference? Consider fostering one of our animals!
Foster homes supply our animals with the socialization, discipline, and nurturing environment they need to live healthy lives! They are more capable of developing their personalities and this helps us match them to the purr-fect family.
Being a foster family can be ruff, but we are happy to supply you with the necessary food and supplies to make your foster journey easier. You would be making a huge difference in their lives!
We often get surrender pets due to change of living situations or health issues, and the change in environment can be very stressful for the animals. These are the cases when foster homes would be even more beneficial!

Our Volunteers
The Faribault County Humane Society is Non-Profit and Staffed Entirely by Volunteers. Our volunteers work tirelessly to provide the cats and dogs with a healthy and nurturing environment. Volunteers may go to the shelter at any time, but priority goes to filling 3 shifts each day. During these shifts, volunteers provide the animals with fresh food and water, clean their kennels, exercise the animals, and complete numerous additional tasks.
Volunteers also transport our animals to veterinary care appointments, work our adoptions, run social media sites and advertising, not to mention all the work they have done on our shelter throughout the years! We would not be where we are without them!
We are always in need of volunteers! Volunteers are needed to perform the daily chores, exercise the animals, give he animals affection and 1 on 1 time, transportation of animals to veterinary care appointments, adoption assistance, maintaining social media sites and advertising adoptable pets, as well as assisting with fundraiser events! (Volunteers must be 18 years or older).
